Instructional Technology

Students showing up as “Suspended” in Moodle
Faculty - Alverno’s help desk and the Instructional Technologists have received questions about students listed in the Participants area of Moodle with “Suspended” in the Status column. If you see that a student has Suspended status in the Moodle Participants area, it typically indicates that a student had registered for your class and then dropped the class. The student still shows up in the Moodle class Participants list because we might need to access work the student previously submitted. Note that if the student's account is globally suspended in Moodle (due to leaving the college or having an old account deleted), the Suspended Account graphic will appear where the student's profile picture would normally be, and the account will be listed as Disabled.

If you want to view only students who are active in your class, filter your Participation page using these instructions.

Moodle Maintenance Schedule
Our Moodle host company has established a monthly maintenance window in order to schedule routine updates to the server environment. On the second Tuesday of each month, from 3:00 - 5:00am CT, Moodle will be down for maintenance.

When Courses Will No Longer Be Available to Students
The current semester’s Moodle courses will be available until the end of the following semester. Be sure to copy important work that you submitted to Moodle assignments to a safe file storage area. We recommend LiveText, Google Drive, or Microsoft OneDrive.

Note to Students – there will be times when your instructor has hidden a course to add materials. If you don’t see a course that you signed up for in next semester’s Moodle, most likely your instructor is constructing the course.
